Self-consumption: the essentials
Self-consumption means using on site the electricity your solar plant produces, and feeding the surplus to the grid to sell it. You reduce what you buy from the grid.
Who is it for, and for what uses?
It suits activities that consume mainly in the daytime: workshops, shops, offices, farms. The more your consumption coincides with solar production, the higher the self-consumed share.
What it changes for you
You control part of your supply and make the most of the surplus. Real-time monitoring shows what you produce, consume and feed in.
Self-consumption with surplus sale, full self-consumption or full sale?
With surplus sale, you consume what you produce first and the rest is fed into the grid, which buys it from you. With full self-consumption, nothing is injected. With full sale, all production is resold.
The choice depends on your daytime consumption and the feed-in tariff in force: we compare the structures on your data before recommending one.
How is the self-consumption rate calculated?
It is the share of production consumed on site. It depends on how well your consumption curve matches solar output: a business that consumes mostly during the day on weekdays reaches a higher rate than a site closed at weekends.
A battery can shift part of the production to the evening, at the cost of extra investment that we price separately.
Which administrative steps?
A grid-connected installation requires a connection request to the network operator (Enedis in most cases), a planning declaration or permit depending on the project, and a purchase contract if you sell the surplus.
We handle the connection and support you on the other formalities.
Our solution
A self-consumption project rests on three elements:
| Criterion | With Eneffic |
|---|---|
| Direct consumption | Solar output used first on site |
| Surplus | Unused energy fed into and sold to the grid |
| Monitoring | Production, consumption and injection tracked in real time |

Thomas's take, our expert
Before sizing, I look at your consumption curve at 15-minute intervals. It tells you how much of your production you will actually use.
